Hedy Ranieri and her husband have lived in Upper Makefield since May 2019, and between them, they have four children and one grandson. After 40 years in the insurance industry, Hedy retired at the end of 2023, spending her last 14 years as Chief Claims Officer for two divisions of WR Berkley Corporation: Berkley Life Science and Berkley Technology. In addition to her oversight of claims and claim management, her work involved financial oversight, compliance, audits, litigation management, vendor management, and budgeting—skills that are essential for responsible decision-making, and will add value to the overall school board.
Over the past year, Hedy has attended Council Rock School Board meetings and has seen firsthand how disconnected and partisan the meetings have become. The current Boards financial decisions lack transparency and accountability. Throwing more money at problems isn’t a solution; financial accountability and focus on determining the root cause of issues is necessary and must be recognized as the overall fiduciary duty of the school board.
Council Rock was once one of the top school districts in Pennsylvania, but its rankings have fallen significantly. This decline impacts students, families, and property values. The decline continues, all our while taxes continue to rise.
One of the reasons Hedy and her husband moved from New Jersey was because of the strangle hold of high taxes. If the continued course of tax and spend continues those same issues will begin to negatively impact families in Council Rock. Taxes keep rising with little accountability, and families—not bureaucrats—are left to foot the bill. Without transparency on spending, simply throwing more money at the problem hurts those who can least afford it.
With her experience, time, and dedication, Hedy is ready to bring accountability, transparency and common sense to the Council Rock School Board. It’s time for real change, and she is prepared to step up.
Academic performance in the Council Rock School District has declined, with proficiency scores dropping and college readiness falling behind. Hedy Ranieri is committed to reversing this trend by strengthening core subject proficiency, increasing college preparedness, and ensuring better resources for students and teachers. She will work to provide every student with the tools they need to succeed.
Hedy understands the strain rising taxes place on families and communities. She will advocate for a balanced budget that prioritizes efficient spending and ensures taxpayer dollars are put to good use. It's crucial that funds are spent responsibly, not wasted on ineffective solutions. Throwing money at problems only burdens families, many of whom cannot afford unnecessary spending.
Transparency ensures decisions benefit the community and resources are used effectively. Hedy is committed to restoring openness in the Council Rock School Board by improving communication and involving parents in the decision-making process. She will ensure decisions are made openly with input from students, parents, and staff. Hedy believes in a school board that is accessible and accountable.
Hedy is focused on addressing the safety concerns that affect students, teachers, and staff in Council Rock schools. She will advocate for stronger security measures, improved safety protocols, and increased support for mental health services, ensuring that every student can learn in a safe, supportive environment. Hedy believes that a safe school is essential to a successful school.
