Hedy Ranieri and her husband have lived in Upper Makefield since May 2019, and between them, they have four children and one grandson. After 40 years in the insurance industry, Hedy retired at the end of 2023, spending her last 14 years as Chief Claims Officer for two divisions of WR Berkley Corporation: Berkley Life Science and Berkley Technology. Her work involved financial oversight, compliance, managing litigation, and budgeting—skills that are essential for responsible decision-making.
Over the past year, Hedy has attended Council Rock School Board meetings and has seen firsthand how disconnected things have become. There is no transparency about where the money is going, and the board struggles to answer where the funding comes from. Throwing more money at problems isn’t a solution, and this lack of accountability is one reason science scores remain low.
Council Rock was once one of the top districts in Pennsylvania, but its rankings have fallen significantly. This decline impacts students, families, and property values—all while taxes continue to rise.
Hedy and her husband moved from New Jersey to avoid high taxes, but now they see the same issue affecting average families in Council Rock. Taxes keep rising with little accountability, and families—not bureaucrats—are left to foot the bill. Without transparency on spending, simply throwing more money at the problem hurts those who can least afford it.
